Krystyn Kalloo: The Clifton Graham Roberts Admission Award

First-year Vic student, Krystyn Kalloo, has received The Clifton Graham Roberts Admission Award for her scholastic achievement and co-curricular involvement during her high school years in Trinidad and Tobago.

“Finishing high school during COVID was not only a physical challenge but also a mental challenge, too,” says Kalloo. “I’m so glad to be here in Toronto, now, and to be able to enjoy Vic’s welcoming and friendly campus. The St. George campus is so picturesque with its juxtaposition of old and new buildings.”

Although Kalloo intends to major in cell and systems biology, her love of literature has led her to the Frye stream of Vic One. “I attended a Zoom meeting from Trinidad and learned all about the Vic One streams. This stream really spoke to me as I hope to minor in literature and critical theory. The professors in this stream are passionate about their work and they really give us space to think, speak and become equally engaged in the subject matter.”

An avid athlete (swimming, tennis, badminton, volleyball), Kalloo also participated in many clubs during high school (Scrabble, biochemistry, photography) and took piano and singing lessons. She looks forward to getting actively involved on the Vic campus. “My long-term goal is to study biotechnology at the graduate level and to one day open my own biotech firm. This award helps set me on this path as it really facilitates my academic and personal journey. I'm deeply honoured to have received this award.”
