Professor John Bemrose is a Canadian writer and novelist, and a professor of creative expression and society at Victoria College in the University of Toronto. He graduated from Victoria College in the University of Toronto in 1970 before becoming a freelance arts journalist, publishing reviews and articles in The Globe and Mail, the National Post and Maclean's. In 2003, Professor Bemrose published his first novel, The Island Walkers, for which he drew inspiration from his memories of his hometown, Paris, Ontario. This novel went on to become a national bestseller, a finalist for The Giller Prize and longlisted for the Man Booker Prize. His second novel, The Last Woman, was published in 2009. In addition to novels, Professor Bemrose has also published poetry, and written a play, Mother Moon, which was produced by the National Arts Centre.
