Specialist in Renaissance Studies
The Specialist Program in Renaissance studies affords all the advantages that intensive, cross-disciplinary study of a single period can offer. As a consequence it can usefully be combined with Major and Minor programs in a wide variety of other fields: to cite only a few, Western European Languages and Literature, History, Political Science, Religious Studies, History of Science, Fine Art History and Music.
To acquire a Specialist in Renaissance Studies, you'll need to complete a total of 10.0 credits (no more than 1.0 credit at the 100 level), including:
- at least 3.0 credits at the 300 level, and
- 1.0 credit at the 400 level
Mandatory Courses
You must complete REN240H1 - The Renaissance in Italy, REN440H1 - Florence and the Renaissance and one of REN244H1 - The Renaissance in Europe and the World or REN245H1 - Race and Power in the Renaissance. (Those who have already completed REN240Y1 - The Civilization of Renaissance Europe, do not need REN240H, REN244H1 or REN245H1). If you do not have the necessary prerequisites, please contact the instructor or program coordinator.

You will need to complete 2.0 credits in languages relevant to Renaissance Studies – French, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, Latin, Ancient Greek, Polish, German (or other language courses with the permission of the Program Coordinator)
Only 1.0 credit may be at the introductory level (i.e. 100 level).
Major in Renaissance Studies
The Major Program in Renaissance studies affords all the advantages that intensive, cross-disciplinary study of a single period can offer. General Requirements
To acquire a Major in Renaissance Studies, you'll need to complete a total of 6.0 credits (no more than 1.0 credit at the 100 level), including at least 2.0 credits at the 300+ level.

You must complete REN240H1 - The Renaissance in Italy, REN440H1 - Florence and the Renaissance and one of REN244H1 - The Renaissance in Europe and the World or REN245H1 - Race and Power in the Renaissance. The Minor Program in Renaissance Studies is particularly useful in introducing students specializing intensively in another area to the principles of interdisciplinary study in an historical field; it is a valuable support for many other Major and Specialist programs.
To acquire a Minor in Renaissance Studies, you'll need to complete a total of 4.0 credits (no more than 1.0 credit at the 100 level), including at least 1.0 credit at the 300+ level.
