Teaching & Research Interests:
Jonathan Hamilton-Diabo teaches in the VIC One (Education Stream) and the Education & Society Program at Victoria College and is an Adjunct Professor at Emmanuel College. He focuses on the impacts of Residential Schools and the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada; Indigenous interactions with Christianity and the Church; and exploring community relationships (both past and present). He is also interested in the connection between educational systems and teaching methods on individuals and communities. He uses personal stories, experiences and worldviews within his teaching style.
Jonathan also seeks to enhance Indigenous presence throughout Victoria University as the Special Advisory on Indigenous Initiatives to the Office of the President. Prior to becoming faculty, Jonathan worked at First Nations House (Indigenous Student Services) and the Office of Indigenous Initiatives (Provost's Office/Human Resources & Equity) at the University of Toronto. Beyond post-secondary education, he was an ESL Instructor (TDSB) and coordinated an Adult Career Program (Native Canadian Centre of Toronto).
Jonathan is from Kahnawake, a Mohawk community near Montreal. He is an unwavering Habs fan, loves downhill skiing and possesses an uncanny knowledge of superheroes and comic books.
